Denver sports and Kristy's first NBA game

Kristy:  Andy has been feeling better!  In celebration, we have been taking advantage of the Denver Sporting events.  First

up: Rockies vs. the Cubbies.  Andy grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, making the Cubs his first MLB love.  He found himself in a bit of a quandary.  Does he join the crowd and cheer for the Rockies, the team he cheered to the World Series last year, or, does he forsake all geographical ties and root for his childhood team?  He ended up wearing a Rockies jersey to the first game while refusing to cheer against the Cubbies.  The next day, he went with his office to an afternoon game (which they sponsored as a "team-building activity"), wore his Cubs jersey, and rooted outwardly.

By the way, purchasing the Cubs jersey was a hilarious experience all unto itself!  We weren't able to find any in the metro area and were forced to wait until the day we ventured downtown for the game.  I'm sure that folks in the store found the two of us, decked out in Rockies stuff and colors, examining the opposing team's gear to be humorous.  In fact, I had to out Andy when we approached the register, explaining to the clerk that Andy was purchasing the jersey for "a friend"! 

The next week, Andy and I decided to grab tickets to the Nuggets playoff game.  Typically, I don't care for basketball, usually opting to watch the last two minutes of a playoff game.  Nonetheless, this was different.  I was going to go to a playoff game... against the Lakers!  Seriously, who can pass up an opportunity to see Kobe, the greatest player of his generation, in person?

NBA games and fans are dramatically different from the other major sporting events I have attended.  The games are much louder- not due to crowd noise, but because of the constant music they pump into the arena.  I also think that NBA games and fans lack some class. 

First off, the game ball was presented by Champ Bailey, a Bronco's CB, and Kendra Wilkinson from the "Girls Next Door".  I was a little surprised by the second choice.  What does a parent say to their little child when they ask, "Mommy, who is that girl?"  Furthermore, the fans were slightly out of control.  Cops actually had to intercede on a couple of occasions when scuffles broke out. The Lakers fans were hostile; a guy in front of us took a Nuggets T-Shirt given to him and chucked it at a vendor! 

After a close game (the Nuggets were swept in four), we wandered through the Auraria Campus to catch the Light Rail.  I noticed a new scent as we walked under the blooming trees.  "Andy, what is that smell?  It stinks!"  Andy responded, "Kristy, keep walking!  It's pot!"

I tried not to inhale and mentally added this experience to the long list of NBA observations.  In the future, I think I'll stick to NFL and MLB.

Well, Rick, I went to a wholesome university in Manhattan, Kansas. Folks just don't need stuff like pot to have a good time. (They're all about the beer) I can, however, tell what species of hay is being cut in the fields just by smell. As for Andy... I guess you should expect that sort of thing from a West Pointer!
