Posted by Kristy: Micah, Andy and I were severely in need of a ski day together! Typically, we avoid the slopes when there is a lack of recent snowfall – snow that is a week old can be pretty crusty and icy in spots. Nonetheless, we decided to give A-Basin a shot, partly because we hadn’t yet tried the Montezuma Bowl and partly because its jovial atmosphere assured us some fun, regardless of the conditions.
I think I’d like to try the new bowl on a better snow day. All of the runs start above treeline and finish by ducking in and out of rocks and glades. The snow turned out to be as bad as we expected and we chose to quit around lunch time.

That was when the real fun began! A-Basin is perfect for a party. No one takes themselves very seriously and the parking lots are close to the slopes. Andy and I packed a lunch and outdoor furniture and Micah brought a camp stove in addition to a wig!
By the way, upon further investigation, we have discovered that this wig once belonged to my father. You know, the retired Infantry officer who avoids dancing and has been sporting the same haircut since college? Yeah, that’s the one. You won’t get him to admit it though. During a recent phone conversation, he denied any recollection and promised to find any incriminating evidence to destroy it! Mom, be sure to hide the old photo albums – the world wants to see those photos!
